The primary goal of these centers is to remove nonacademic barriers to learning as a means to enhance student academic success. Each center offers a unique blend of programs and services determined by the needs of the population being served, available resources, location and other local characteristics. FRYSCs have established a record of success based on improved student performance in class work, homework and peer relations as reported by teachers. Parents, too, report they experience greater satisfaction and involvement with the schools as a result of assistance through their local FRYSCs.

OVERVIEW OF EARLY CHILDHOOD CONSULTING PROGRAM:
Early Childhood Consulting is a new grant the Pennyroyal Center received in December 2018 in response to the Opioid Crisis. Unfortunately, Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) births (births where the infant experiences withdrawals) have increased by over 1,000 births annually in the last 15 years. In 2001, NAS births were calculated at 46 births. In 2016, there were approximately 1,100 NAS births.
As the Early Childhood Consultant (ECC) I work with, not only pregnant women, but mothers and children (ages 0-18 years old) who suffer from a substance use disorder or who may be at-risk of developing a substance use disorder. ECC’s consult and refer pregnant, parenting females, or children to various programs that may be beneficial to their individual needs to include:
